About Steve Letchford

A self taught artist, I have been painting and drawing over forty years. I was fortunate to be guided by some notable artists during my early years. Ed Wesson and Bill Voss, a Flatford Mill Demonstrator helped and encouraged my first watercolour attempts, and Brian Gallagher a wild life artist, later President of the Pastel Society my drawings, a great champion of working from life outdoors.

I have travelled much of England, Scotland and Wales, and enjoy discovering the landscapes and buildings and sketching them. Back in the studio and the drawings are developed into watercolour paintings. The memories of the day return and mix with the reference material to help produce the works. I use artist quality materials, combined with the traditional British Watercolour technique to ensure transparency in the pictures.

My paintings have been exhibited in the Banqueting Hall, the Mall Galleries, and the Menier Gallery in London, at exhibitions in Edinburgh, York, Blackpool, Cardiff and in France, where I was selected to show at the "Rencontres Intemationalea d'Art Contemporain" at the Chateau de Saint Brisson sur Loire.

I have held several one man exhibitions and my work can be found in a number of public collections including The Post Office, the Crown Prosecution Service, National River Association, Surrey County Council and in private collections in a number of countries including France, Italy, Germany, North and South America, and Ireland.
